SQL™ Subwoofers
No. You can use the enclosure volume before displacement with virtually no audible difference. For example, the SQL-12 displaces 0.15 ft³ — in 1.0 ft³ after displacement the Qtc is 0.628 with an anechoic F3 of 46 Hz; using a 0.84 ft³ box (1.0 before displacement) yields a Qtc of 0.655 with an F3 of 46.2 Hz. Essentially zero change in low-end performance.
Our warranty does NOT cover blown voice coils from exceeding rated power — doing so immediately voids the warranty. You can however run lower than rated power; power handling is not a power requirement. Our SQL™ subwoofers perform perfectly well with 250–500 watts.
Yes. Our subwoofers are extremely flexible and will work in almost any enclosure size or type. For best performance though, we suggest using our recommended enclosure volumes and tuning specs.
Yes. In an infinite baffle alignment, lower the power to 700 watts or below to ensure longevity and proper warranty coverage.
Yes. The cone has a glossy water-resistant treatment, the surround is rubber (naturally resistant), and the more moderate temperature swings on a boat are less severe than a vehicle interior — adhesives hold up fine.
Free-air frequency response extends to 1,100 Hz. The in-car low-frequency limit is 5 Hz for SQL™ subwoofers.
24″ Subwoofer Series
No. The equivalent sealed volume for the IB-24 would exceed 40 ft³ — it is specifically engineered for infinite baffle alignments only.
Extremely marginal. In 8 ft³ sealed the anechoic F3 is 31.9 Hz; in 10 ft³ it's 31.2 Hz. Adding 25% polyfill (0.5 lbs per cubic foot) to an 8 ft³ enclosure gives you the sonic equivalent of a 10 ft³ enclosure. Even at 16 ft³ the anechoic F3 only reaches 30.5 Hz — very little to gain from going larger.
Components
Yes:

2-way (TM65/M25): 3,000 Hz crossover point
TM65/M3 Carbon: 500 Hz minimum (stay above 500 Hz for warranty coverage)
3-way (TM65/M3/M25): 500 Hz and 3,000 Hz crossover points

All of the above assume an overall highpass crossover for the complete component set, typically set at 70 Hz or higher.
